CHRIS KEUP

SONGWRITER/PRODUCER

“Over 20 years ago I recommended to anyone who would listen to check out The Subject of Some Regret and it still sounds as good today as it did then. The songs I have heard from his new album make me think that the 20-year gap was not spent only milking cows on his farm but making highly innovative music. The quality of this Robbie Robertson / Blue Nile / Twin Peaks style artist is beyond discussion.”

BIO

Chris Keup released his debut solo album, The Subject of Some Regret, in the early 2000’s. The album earned ASCAP’s Sammy Cahn lyricist award in a Lincoln Center ceremony (John Mayer, Lori McKenna and Josh Ritter won the prize on either side of Keup) and prompted showcases of his work at the Sundance Film Festival and SXSW. A planned follow-up, which was to have been produced by Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous, never materialized following Linkous’ tragic death.

Instead Keup focused on his work behind the scenes, collaborating across genres as a platinum selling songwriter and producer (with productions reaching as high as #2 on the Billboard charts and songs used in nearly 50 tv shows/films). In 2016, he founded a music publishing company, Salinger Songs, with a focus on developing talent.

Now, 20 years after The Subject of Some Regret, Keup is set to return with two new albums (one celebrating his wife, another performed as an alter ego, Cade Cur, adopting a variety of noxious male personae) and, Anna K., a musical theater piece conceived as a modern take on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina.

Keup is originally from Alexandria, VA and attended The College of William and Mary as a James Monroe Scholar majoring in philosophy. He currently lives on a farm outside of Charlottesville, VA.
